Destination Intelligence
Greece, Croatia, Turkey, and the Balearics each deliver a completely different experience. Here is the objective comparison.
Where & When
Do you have a destination in mind?
Greece
Greece offers over 6,000 islands, reliable Meltemi winds in the Cyclades, crystal-clear water, and some of Europe's most dramatic anchorages. The Greek island chain — Cyclades, Dodecanese, Ionian — gives you radically different experiences within the same country. Peak season (July–August) is hot, crowded, and windy. Shoulder season (May–June, September) is the expert's choice: calmer water, emptier anchorages, 20% lower prices.

Pro tip
The Ionian islands (Corfu, Lefkada, Kefalonia) are the beginner's Greece: calmer winds, lush landscapes, and more intimate than the crowded Cyclades.
Croatia
Croatia delivers a near-perfect charter blend: 1,244 islands and islets, UNESCO-listed towns (Dubrovnik, Hvar, Trogir), transparent Adriatic water, and marinas that consistently rank among the best in Europe. The season is slightly shorter (June–September), the wind is lighter than Greece, and the food and wine scene has improved dramatically. It is currently the most popular Mediterranean destination for first-time charterers.

Watch out
Hvar in July–August is peak European nightlife. Book marinas 3–4 months in advance or plan to anchor out.
Turkey
Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coast (the Turquoise Coast) offers exceptional value compared to the rest of the Med — charter rates are 25–40% lower, marina fees are a fraction of Greek or Croatian costs, and provisioning is significantly cheaper. The culture is completely different: ancient ruins, hammam stops, Turkish cuisine onboard, and secluded bays that remain far less crowded. The trade-off: a different cultural context and longer flight times from Northern Europe.

Balearic Islands
Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera, and Menorca offer the Mediterranean's most glamorous charter circuit. Prices are at the top of the Med scale — but so is the marina infrastructure, the restaurant scene, and the overall luxury level. Ibiza remains the party capital; Formentera is a protected paradise; Menorca is unspoiled and quiet. Best for: high-end charters, groups who want world-class venues, and anyone combining sea with vibrant nightlife.
Season Timing
High season (July–August) means: maximum heat, maximum crowds, maximum prices, and — in Greece — strong Meltemi winds that can disrupt itineraries. Shoulder season (May–June, September–October) means: 20–35% lower rates, calmer seas, emptier anchorages, and cooler (but still warm) temperatures. Low season (November–April) is suitable for experienced sailors in Turkey or the western Mediterranean only. For first-time charterers, June or September is the optimal choice.
Pro tip
If you have flexibility, book September in Greece or Croatia. You get summer temperatures, calm sea, empty anchorages, and pay 25–30% less than August.
